Namibia has a bird list of almost 700 species, with one true endemic and 15 near-endemics, along with many other spectacular species. Most of the country’s special species are found in relatively accessible locations, with very good infrastructure in terms of accommodation and roads. All of this makes Namibia a brilliant birding destination, not just in Africa, but the world.
For serious birders short on time we now have a 3 night/4 day birding trip where we focus on finding as many of the Namibian near-endemics (along with the one true endemic) as possible. Our main targets will be Dune, Gray’s, Benguela Long-billed and Stark’s Lark, Herero Chat, Damara Red-billed and Monteiro’s Hornbill, Carp’s Tit, Rüppell’s Parrot, Rosy-faced Lovebird, Rüppell’s Korhaan, Pririt Batis, Rockrunner and Hartlaub’s Spurfowl.
This tour starts in the capital of Namibia, Windhoek, and from there we continue west through the vast Namib Desert and onto the coastal towns of Walvis Bay and Swakopmund, known for the high concentration of waterbirds. Then we move north through the seemingly inhospitable Damaraland, and then onto the beautiful Erongo Mountains, before heading back south to Windhoek. Besides the brilliant birding opportunities we will enjoy some good game viewing and stunning scenery in one of the most beautiful countries on earth.
This birding trip can be customised according to your personal preferences.
