Safari OverviewThe area of Sossusvlei in the vast Namib desert is one of the most photographed spots in all of southern Africa and always a highlight of any trip to wonderful Namibia. This short, 3 day trip will highlight all the top attractions in the Sossusvlei area, and is a perfect add-on to a longer safari, or also ideal if you only have a few days available for an exciting excursion while in Namibia.
The name Sossusvlei refers to the vlei or pan into which the seasonal Tsauchab River flows in years of exceptional rainfall, while the neighbouring Dead Vlei with its iconic ancient dead trees is a phenomenal sight in the early morning light. The nearby Sesriem canyon is a narrow gorge about 1 km long with incredible historical importance.
Several desert adapted wildlife species like Gemsbok, Springbok, Black-backed Jackal, Common Ostrich, Sociable Weavers and many reptiles and small mammals also call this place home.
